CURRICULUM VITAE

Alisa Buchman graduated as a chemist in 1973 and received her M.Sc degree in Materials Engineering in 1977 from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.

During 1973-81 she worked on research projects at the Technion. She joined Rafael's Armament Development Authority in 1982, where she worked in research and development in the Materials and Processes Department as head of Adhesion and Nondestructive Technology (NDT) section. She accomplished many advances during sabbaticals:

1987-88, University of Akron, Ohio; visiting scientist: Worked developing thermoplastic composites for the FY-22 airplane.

1995-96, Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA; visiting professor: Conducted a research program in NASA Langley Research Center in the field of C/C composites.

2002, The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) in Melbourne, Australia; visiting professor: Conducted research in the field of microwave curing of polymers for concrete.

2005, Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials (IFAM) in Bremen, Germany; visiting professor: Conducted a research in the field of incorporation of nano-particles in adhesives.

Currently Ms. Buchman is serving as the CTO of MMA TECH Ltd. as a Biomaterials Subject Matter Expert (SME) company and as an advisor to companies in adhesion, failure analysis and biomaterials for medical applications. She specializes in aging of polymers, adhesive characterization and formulation, novel surface treatment, failure analysis, biomaterials and micro/nano-bonding.

Ms. Buchman is an expert reviewer for the J. of adhesion, J. of adhesives and adherends, IEEE Journal, Lasers in Surgery and Medicine (LSM) journal, and an expert examiner for the EU projects FP7 and Horizon 2020 since 2008. Ms. Buchman has published over 160 peer-reviewed papers in international journals and five chapters in books. She also holds nine patents.

BIOGRAPHY

Ms. Alisa Buchman holds a both a B.Sc. in Chemistry (1973) and a M.Sc. in Materials Engineering (1977) from Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (IIT). During the pursuit of her academic degrees, Ms. Buchman worked as a research engineer at the Technion on projects that included selective anodization, aging of plastic materials, elastomeric composites, structural adhesives and residual stresses in injection molding processes.

In 1982, Ms. Buchman joined Rafael – Armament Development Authority in Haifa, Israel, to work on various material related projects. In 1987, she joined the Polymer Engineering department at the University of Akron, Ohio, on sabbatical as visiting scientist funded by Lockheed to work on the US Air Force Advanced Tactical Fighter YF-22 Program. Here, she was able to apply her unique skills researching and evaluating the performance of various graphite fiber-reinforced thermoplastic using super-forming techniques related to compression molding and thermoforming. Ms. Buchman had the additional responsibilities of evaluating the performance of these composite structures using chemical, physical and nondestructive technology (NDT) techniques to assess and refine the manufacturing processes.

After her sabbatical in the US, Ms. Buchman returned to Rafael as the head of the Adhesion and NDT group. In 1995, she took a second sabbatical to work at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA, as a visiting scientist working on carbon-carbon (C/C) piston processing for the next generation of internal combusting engines. This involved extensive intricate molding and pyrolysis processing and in-situ testing of 3D direct-formed piston heads.

After this sabbatical, Ms. Buchman returned to Rafael to assume her previous position. In 2002, Ms. Buchman took yet another sabbatical, this time to work a CIRSO in Heighett, VIC, Australia, applying her expertise to the development and production of advanced cementitious / polymer composite material processing using microwave curing and high strength cellular materials.

In 2005, Ms. Buchman worked at the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials (IFAM) in Bremen, Germany, as a visiting professor conducting research in the field of Incorporation of Nano-particles in Adhesives.

Ms. Buchman has conducted research for various institutions worldwide. As such, she is an expert reviewer for the J. of Adhesion, J. of Adhesives and Adherends, IEEE Journal, Lasers in Surgery and Medicine (LSM) journal and an expert examiner for the EU projects (FP7 and Horizon 2020) since 2008. Ms. Buchman has published over 160 peer-reviewed papers in international journals and five chapters in books. She also holds nine patents.
